Complainant Name:
Mr Bedwyr Griffiths

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Daily Telegraph

Complaint:

Mr Bedwyr Griffiths complained to the Press Complaints Commission about an article which was, in his view, inaccurate and misleading in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The article reported on a number of allegations which had been made online, by parents who claimed that their children had been ‘punished for speaking English'.

According to the complainant, the claims in question were unsubstantiated and he objected to their being publicised by the newspaper.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of an update to the online article, which reported that the Children's Commissioner for Wales had decided not to investigate the matter.
