Complainant Name:
Mr Nicholas Thomas

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Independent

Complaint:

Mr Nicholas Thomas complained to the Press Complaints Commission, about the publication of statistics which were, he said, misleading in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The statistics in question were contained an educational performance league table, for schools in the county of Suffolk. Contrary to the accompanying key, ‘Column D' did not, according to the complainant, show the percentage of ‘pupils achieving A* to C in both English and maths GCSE'.

Resolution:

The newspaper noted that the key and table was mismatched, and regretted the error. The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the removal of the online table.
