Complainant Name:
Mrs Agnes Gwynn

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mirror

Mrs Agnes Gwynn complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice. The complainant said that the newspaper had, in an article on its website reporting on the inquest into the death of her daughter Courtney, published a photograph wrongly claiming to be of Courtney.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper wrote a private letter of apology to the complainant and appended the following apology to the article:

An earlier version of this article included a photograph which we incorrectly labelled as being Courtney Gwynn. The photograph did not in fact depict Courtney. We apologise to Courtney's family for our error and the distress it has caused them.
