Complainant Name:
Mr Martin Jones

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Reading Post

Complaint:

Mr Martin Jones, a former international hockey player, complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published an article in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice. The article had incorrectly reported that a man "had been accused of assaulting Great Britain player Martin Jones". This was a case of mistaken identity - the complainant had been involved in no such incident.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper apologised for any confusion caused by the error and removed the reference to the Martin Jones in the article being a hockey player.
