Complainant Name:
Levy & McRae Solicitors, on behalf of Christopher and Mary Gorman

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Sun

Complaint:

Levy & McRae Solicitors, acting on behalf of Christopher and Mary Gorman, complained to the Press Complaints Commission about an article which was, in their clients' view, inaccurate and misleading in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The article claimed that one of the complainants had been ‘accused of performing a sex act on a man in a nightclub loo'. This allegation, originally made by a police officer, was subsequently retracted.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated an undertaking from the newspaper not to use the term ‘sex shame' in its future reports; further, this term was removed from existing online articles.
