Complainant Name:
Mr Terry Butler

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Sun

Mr Terry Butler complained to the Press Complaints Commission about article which inaccurately reported that he had been "in prison" for 15 months. In fact he had been in hospital for this time period, and therefore considered that the article had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complaint was resolved after the PCC negotiated the publication of the following correction and apology, as well as a private letter of apology and goodwill payment for the complainant:

In an article ‘Real life Mr Bump has had 34 ops" (11 January) a picture caption mistakenly said that Mr Terry Butler had been ‘in prison' for 15 months instead of ‘in hospital'. We apologise to Mr Butler and regret any distress caused.
