Publication: Daily Mail

Ms Lynne Hales complained to the Press Complaints Commission under Clause 6 (Children) of the Editors' Code of Practice about an article reporting on a continuing international custody dispute relating to her daughter. The complainant was concerned that in publishing her daughter's name the newspaper had intruded unnecessarily into her time at school.

The matter was resolved when the PCC negotiated the circulation of an internal legal warning asking that the complainant's daughter not be named in future reports on this subject unless she is specifically named in court, identified in another newspaper not in breach of the Code, or unless circumstances materially change.
