Complainant Name:
Dr John Little

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Daily Telegraph

Complaint:

Dr John Little complained to the Press Complaints Commission, under Clause 1 (Accuracy), about an article which he considered had inaccurately reported the position regarding the right of Scottish service personnel to vote in the upcoming independence referendum.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved as the newspaper had amended the online article, and published the following clarification, prior to receipt of the complaint through the PCC.

Scottish referendum

Following an article (Mar 13) about Scottish service people being denied the special referendum arrangements applicable to 16- and 17-year-olds, about whom all households will be asked to provide details, we wish to clarify that military personnel living outside Scotland can apply for a service vote, but not while registered to vote elsewhere in the UK. After consultation between our Scottish Editor and the Scottish Government, we made certain amendments to the online version of the article to make the position absolutely clear. The amended article can be found at http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/scotland/9937920/Thousands-of-Scottish-servicemen-denied-special-deal-in-independence-referendum.html
