Complainant Name:
Mr Dean Torkington

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Sunday Times

Mr Dean Torkington complained to the Press Complaints Commission about an article which was, in his view, inaccurate and misleading in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complainant said it was not the case that he underwent a ‘tummy tuck' on the National Health Service.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following correction:

‘A feature about tribute bands (‘The Xerox Factor', Magazine, December 16, 2012) incorrectly stated that Dean Torkington, a Meat Loaf tribute artist, had experienced ‘botched NHS tummy tucks'. In fact, the operation was a chest reduction and it was the NHS that corrected the earlier surgery by a private clinic'.
