Mr Clive Bates complained to the Press Complaints Commission about an article, published online by the magazine, which had inaccurately suggested that e-cigarettes are more harmful than smoking.

The complaint was resolved after the PCC negotiated the publication of the following correction and apology, which included links to further information about e-cigarettes from Action on Smoking and Health:

In January (29) 2013 Marie Claire published a piece suggesting that e-cigarettes may be more harmful than smoking. In fact we are not aware of any experts who hold this view compared to the risks of cancer, heart disease and lung damage from real cigarettes and apologise for any contrary suggestion. More information on e-cigarettes can be found in this paper from Action on Smoking and Health. For more information on this organisation visit the website.
