Complainant Name:
Mrs Melanie Taylor

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mirror

Mrs Melanie Taylor complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published an inaccurate caption to a photograph in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice. The complainant said that the newspaper had published a photograph of the 2012 Grand National which showed an obscuring screen at fence 21 of the course. The caption incorrectly claimed that the screen was shielding a stricken horse. In fact, the horse had been destroyed at fence 11, so the screen could not be shielding the horse.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper removed the photograph and the caption. The complainant's comment was published beneath the article.
