Publication: The Sentinel (Staffordshire)

Mr Phillip Sherratt complained to the Press Complaints Commission about an article which was, in his view, inaccurate and misleading, in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complainant said it was not the case that a number of Lloyds Banks branches - in Cheadle, Burslem and Tunstall - were going to be sold ‘through a stock market listing', following a decision by the Co-operative Group to pull out of a takeover deal.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following correction:

The Sentinel published a story on April 25 which suggested that Lloyds branches in Burslem, Tunstall and Cheadle were being sold. We are happy to clarify these branches will remain part of the Lloyds Banking Group - and apologise for any confusion we may have caused.
