Clauses Noted: 1, 3

Publication: Daily Mail

A woman complained to the Press Complaints Commission under Clause 1 (Accuracy) and Clause 3 (Privacy) of the Editors' Code of Practice about an article which reported that Mark Blowers, Head of Housing at Medway Council, was facing an investigation for using his Facebook account to advertise a housing officer role at the council. The complainant objected to the publication of a screen grab of Mr Blowers' Facebook status, which had featured a comment she had made in response to the advertisement, alongside her profile picture.

The matter was resolved when the PCC negotiated the pixilation of identifying information in the images, together with the addition of the following paragraph:

One of the commenters on Mr Blower's status claims the post was made with the intention of it being reviewed by fellow colleagues who were aware of the qualifications required to fulfil the role.
