Complainant Name:
Mr Charles Tubbs

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mail

Complaint:

Mr Charles Tubbs complained to the Press Complaints Commission on behalf of Dr Robin Lawrence about an article which was, in Dr Lawrence's view, inaccurate and misleading on breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The article reported on disciplinary proceedings to which Dr Lawrence had been subject; however, the newspaper had failed to report that Dr Lawrence had subsequently been exonerated.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the amendment of the online article, so that it included the following statement:

Following the hearing reported below the psychiatrist was struck off the register following a determination by a General Medical Council Fitness to Practice Panel. This determination was later ruled unlawful by the High Court, because of unfairness during the hearing and in the decision-making process and because of procedural and evidential irregularities. The psychiatrist was reinstated on the register.
