Complainant Name:
Mrs Sadie Collis

Clauses Noted: 1, 3

Publication: Chichester Observer

Mrs Sadie Collis complained to the Press Complaints Commission under Clause 1 (Accuracy) and Clause 3 (Privacy) of the Editors' Code of Practice about articles which reported on her conviction for benefit fraud in 2008. The complainant expressed concern that the articles had inaccurately claimed that she had bought a sports car with money she had obtained from fraud. The complainant also raised concern that the newspaper had published her partial address.

While the newspaper did not accept any breach of the Code, the matter was resolved when the PCC negotiated amendments to the online articles, making clear that the figure was "around £100,000" and that money had been stored in only four secret bank accounts. The newspaper also agreed to remove the complainant's address from the articles.
