Mrs Debbie Lloyd-Hughes

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mirror

Mrs Debbie Lloyd-Hughes complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had incorrectly claimed, in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice, that Muhammad Ali, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, was fighting "terminal illness". The complainant pointed out that Parkinson's disease was not a terminal illness.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following clarification:

"Following Tony Parson's article about Mohammed Ali on 9 February, we have been asked to point out that Parkinson's disease is not a fatal illness."
