Complainant Name:
Sharon Planson

Clauses Noted: 3

Publication: Herald & Post (Luton)

Sharon Planson complained to the Press Complaints Commission on behalf of her daughter, Danielle Hatherall. The newspaper had carried an article which contained private details relating to Ms Hatherall's health but had not obtained her permission to publish it. The complainant believed this represented a breach of Clause 3 (Privacy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper sent the complainant's daughter a bouquet of flowers as a gesture of goodwill and published the following apology:

‘On March 21 in the Herald & Post we carried an article on a charity fundraiser, which we printed in good faith. We have since been informed that organisers of the event at Knebworth House had not been given permission by the family involved to use their name or details to publicise the event and that the family had no connection with the event. We apologise to the Danielle Hatherall and her family for any distress caused.'
