Polly Markandya, Head of Communications at Medecines Sans Frontiers UK, complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published a photograph that the organisation considered misleading in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Code. The single image comprised a photograph of a doctor, taken on a Scottish hillside, and a separate photograph of a war-torn area in Syria. While the doctor in question had been working behind the frontline in Syria, no photographs had been provided to the newspaper of her in that context. The complainant believed that the picture should have been labelled as a composite image and, in failing to do this, the newspaper had misled readers.

The newspaper responded substantively to the complaint and, while no breach of the Code was accepted, the matter was resolved privately between the parties.
