Mr Michael Hopkins complained to the Press Complaints Commission about an online article which reported on clashes with police in Turkey. The complainant considered that this had been misleadingly illustrated with an image of Brazilian police officers, in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.


The complaint was resolved after the PCC negotiated the substitution of the image with one from Turkey, as well as the publication of the following footnote to the online article as a record of the change:

‘This article was originally accompanied by a picture showing police responding to protests in Brazil. It was replaced with a new image (above) when the error came to light'.
