Complainant Name:
Mr Joe Dromey

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mail

Mr Joe Dromey complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published a misleading article in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice. The complainant considered that the reference to his selection to stand for Labour in Lewisham, along with his photograph, in the context of an article reporting on disputed selections in Southwark and Lambeth was misleading. Readers would be misled into understanding that he was involved in the de-selections in those two areas.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the removal of his photograph from the online article and the publication of the following clarification on the website and in the newspaper:

Following an article on July 9 about the selection of Labour candidates in the London boroughs of Southwark and Lambeth, we are happy to clarify that there is no suggestion that Lewisham candidate Joe Dromey was involved in any wrongdoing.
