Complainant Name:

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mail

Mr Matt Thornington complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published an article which had been unclear regarding the type of solar panel the author had purchased and giving a misleading impression of the value of solar panels.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of a correction beneath the online article and the amendment of the headline. The correction is worded as follows:

An article on May 13th referred to writer Colin Dunne's solar water heating panels. We are happy to clarify that he was mistaken in his belief that these would provide the advantage of PV solar panels which generate electricity for which a householder can be paid.

The newspaper also offered to publish the following correction on page 2 of the newspaper:

We are happy to clarify that in an article on May 13th the author was mistaken to believe that his own solar water heating panels would provide the same benefits as PV solar panels which generate electricity for which homeowners can be paid.
