Ms Jane Legate complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published inaccurate information in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice. The complainant said that the newspaper had misquoted her when it claimed she had said she had wanted to "get every penny out of husband" during their divorce. This did not reflect her position; she had made clear to the journalist she had not wanted to take a hostile approach to her husband in the proceedings.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following wording in the newspaper and online:

Regarding an article which appeared in the Money Guardian on 6/4/13 entitled "How to cut the costs of getting divorced", Jane Legate disputes the words attributed to her in the accompanying case study. Ms Legate and her former husband have asked us to make it clear that their divorce was entirely amicable and the assets were equally divided.
