Mr Christopher Tuplin complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had inaccurately reported that five men had charged up to £1,000 for disposing of controlled waste.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following correction in the newspaper and online:

"A report in the Grimsby Telegraph on Monday June 24th headlined ‘Judge slams scam over dumped refuge' referred to five men charging customers up to £1,000 to dispose of controlled waste. We are happy to clarify that the figure was not mentioned in court, where it was stated that the men received £300 for the service, a fee that was split."
