Mr Christopher Tuplin complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had inaccurately reported that five men had charged up to 1,000 for disposing of controlled waste.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following correction in the newspaper and online:

"A report in the Grimsby Telegraph on Monday June 24th headlined ‘Judge slams scam over dumped refuge' referred to five men charging customers up to 1,000 to dispose of controlled waste. We are happy to clarify that the figure was not mentioned in court, where it was stated that the men received 300 for the service, a fee that was split."
