Complaint:

Ms Frances MacDonald complained to the Press Complaints Commission under Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice about an article which reported on an investigation into an "illegal tip" situated close to the complainant's farm. The article included claims from local residents that the site was an environmental hazard and included "around 3000 tonnes of waste including mattresses, household rubbish, tyres and building materials". The complainant denied that the site posed any environmental risk, and highlighted that this had been confirmed by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency in the article. Furthermore, she denied that any of the alleged materials were stored at the site.

Resolution:

The matter was resolved when the PCC negotiated a private letter of apology to the complainant.
