Complainant Name:
Michaela Hewett on behalf of Nicki Myers

Clauses Noted: 1, 5

Publication: Cambridge News

Michaela Hewett complained to the Press Complaints Commission on behalf of her sister, Nicki Myers, that the newspaper had published an article reporting the inquest into the death of Izaac Myers which was inaccurate and intrusive in breach of Clauses 1 (Accuracy) and 5 (Intrusion into grief or shock) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper wrote a private letter of apology to Ms Myers and published the following correction in print and online:

Izaac Myers

On January 18, 2012, we reported on the inquest into the death of Marlowe Izaac Myers. We would like to make clear that Izaac died at Addenbrooke's Hospital and Ms Myers is paralysed down one side of her body. Ms Myers has also asked us to clarify that she did not make the comments attributed to her after the inquest that were supplied to us by a news agency. We are sorry for the distress caused to Izaac's family and friends.
