Complainant Name:
Mr Jon Wilson

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mail

Complaint:

Mr Jon Wilson complained to the Press Complaints Commission about an article which he considered to have inaccurately reported that one million people claiming out of work benefits were "fit to work", in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved after the PCC negotiated the publication of the following correction:

An article on April 24 reported Department of Work and Pensions statistics which said that one million people claiming out-of-work benefits are ‘fit to work'. We now understand that this figure included 117,000 still under assessment and 187,000 who, with support, should return to work in future.
