Ms Faye Hughes

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mail

Ms Faye Hughes complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published inaccurate information in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Code. The complainant said that the claim that most homosexual people "shared the Mail's belief in civil partnerships as the answer to their grievances" and "that there was no clamour" for gay marriage amongst them was incorrect. A Stonewall survey had found that 91% of lesbian, gay and bisexual people supported equal marriage.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper appended the following note to the online article:

A YouGov poll commissioned by Stonewall showed 69% of Britain's lesbian, gay and bisexual people "strongly" support equal marriage.
