Complainant Name:
Mark Lindley-Highfield of Ballumbie Castle

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Citizen (Gloucester)

Complaint:

Mark Lindley-Highfield of Ballumbie Castle complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had inaccurately reported details given during an inquest in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy).

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following clarification in print and alongside the online version coverage, which was also amended appropriately:

"On 25 April, we published a report of the inquest into the deaths of Ceri Fuller and his three children. In that article we referred to the evidence given by Jo Ballard, the sister of Mr Fuller's wife, Ruth Fuller. We stated that Mrs Ballard's evidence referred to "flirtatious" messages found on Ruth Fuller's phone which had been sent by her university tutor, Mark Lindley-Highfield. This was incorrect. Jo Ballard's evidence to the inquest was actually that the "flirtatious" text messages had been sent by Mrs Fuller to Mr Lindley-Highfield. We have also been asked to point out that the inquest heard Mr Lindley-Highfield had sent Mrs Fuller a text message clarifying the boundaries between them as tutor and student. We are happy to make the position clear."
