Complainant Name:
Mr Michael McDermid

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mail

Mr Michael McDermid complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice. The complainant considered that the newspaper had inaccurately reported that a police officer had been convicted of misconduct in a public office; in fact, the individual had been a civilian detention officer.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the amendment of the article and the publication of the following footnote online:

"An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated Mr Adams' profession as a 'Police Custody Officer' and a 'Police Officer'. We are happy to clarify that Mr Adams' correct title is 'Detention Officer'. We regret any confusion in this regard."
