Eric Joyce MP

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Falkirk Herald

Eric Joyce MP complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published an article which, in his view, contained inaccuracies in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice. He was particularly concerned that the suggested, wrongly, that he had personally profited from expenses claims.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following wording in print and online:

Eric Joyce- An apology

With reference to the article ‘Joyce claims £190,000 in expenses', which appeared in The Falkirk Herald of September 26, we would like to make clear that the majority of this sum was paid by the Independent Parliamentary Standard Authority to staff, airline companies and hotels and not Mr Joyce personally. We would also like to point out that none of the expense claims was for any type of drink.
