Complainant Name:
Mr David Hoar

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mail

Complaint:

Mr David Hoar complained to the Press Complaints Commission about four articles, which he considered to have been inaccurate and misleading, in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complainant was convicted of harassment in July 2012, and the articles reported his victim's allegations that the complainant had ‘loitered' near her house and ‘turned up at events which she was attending'. The complainant said that these allegations had not, however, been proven in court.

Resolution:

The complaints were resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following clarifications:

Daily Mail

David Hoar was convicted of harassment in July 2012. While we have accurately reported his victim's claims that Mr Hoar ‘turned up at events she was attending', and ‘loitered near her house and workplace' and said that he ‘was her partner', we have been asked to make clear that these allegations were not proven, and so did not form part of Mr Hoar's conviction.
