Complainant Name:
Richard Brown

Clauses Noted: 3, 5

Publication: Daily Mirror

Richard Brown complained to the Press Complaints Commission on behalf of an individual who was the victim of a violent attack in the street. The complainant was concerned that the newspaper had published a picture of the man in question receiving assistance in the immediate aftermath of the incident, which left the weapon embedded in his skull. The complainant believed this represented a breach of Clauses 3 (Privacy) and 5 (Intrusion into grief or shock) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper promptly removed the photograph from the online article and sent a private letter to the affected party, apologising to him and his family for the distress caused.
