Complainant Name:
Mr Christopher Orrett

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Western Morning News

Mr Christopher Orrett complained to the Press Complaints Commission about an article which was, in his view, inaccurate and misleading in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complainant said that it was not the case that the ‘cull rate' of cattle had increased.

The complaint was resolved after the newspaper published the following correction:

Initially, the Western Morning News reported that [the figure of 12,061 cattle slaughtered in 2013] represented a year-on-year increase in the total number of animals killed, which was incorrect. Instead, the number is slightly lower than the same period in 2012, which was 12,279.
