Complaint:

Jill Finney complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice with its coverage of criticism levelled at investigations conducted by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). In the complainant's view, the coverage misrepresented the Grant Thornton report into allegations of a cover-up by the CQC and her actions as deputy chief executive of the regulator.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper amended the online article, adding the following footnote setting out the complainant's position:

Since publication of this article, Jill Finney, former deputy chief executive of the Care Quality Commission has contacted us to confirm that she vigorously denies that she gave any instruction to destroy the Dineley report. Furthermore, the police have since confirmed they will not be investigating the alleged suppression of the Dineley report, having concluded that the internal review "had no consequences for the health care provision for the people of Cumbria."
