Complainant Name:
Mrs Natalie Walker

Clauses Noted: 1, 5

Publication: Selby Post

Mrs Natalie Walker complained to the Press Complaints Commission that a report about a traffic accident involving her car had breached Clauses 1 (Accuracy) and 5 (Intrusion into grief or shock). In particular, the complainant considered that the newspaper had given the misleading impression that the driver had been at fault and had handled the matter insensitively.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of a follow-up article which made clear that the police investigation had concluded that the driver had no case to answer. The newspaper also apologised to the complainant for the distress caused by the article.
