Complainant Name:
Mr Gavin Buchan

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mirror

Mr Gavin Buchan complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had inaccurately reported that the dog responsible for the death of a four-year-old girl had been a French mastiff, in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The newspaper explained that this was a fast-moving news story and that the dog had initially been identified as a French mastiff. The complaint was resolved when the PCC brought to the complainant's attention the fact the newspaper had already published follow-up pieces in print and online, which made clear that the dog responsible had in fact been an Aylestone bulldog.
