Complainant Name:
Mr Ben Saunders

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Guardian

Mr Ben Saunders complained to the Press Complaints Commission, under Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors’ Code of Practice, about two articles published on the newspaper’s website which he considered had inaccurately reported HMRC’s assessment of tax avoidance in the UK and a further article, also online, which he considered had inaccurately calculated the level of corporation tax owed by Google by applying the tax to turnover as opposed to profit.

The complaint was resolved after the PCC negotiated amendments to the online articles, as well as the publication of footnotes to record the corrections which had been made.
