Complainant Name:
Spire Healthcare

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Times

Complaint:

Spire Healthcare complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published inaccurate information in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice. The complainant stated that the newspaper misleadingly implied that a surgeon had been allowed to continue practicing at the Spire hospitals without restrictions whilst he was under investigation. Restrictions had in fact been placed on his work. The complainant was further concerned that the newspaper had incorrectly referred to the Spire hospital as a "clinic".

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the alteration of the online article to reflect that the Spire facility was a "hospital" and that the surgeon had practiced under restrictions.
