Mr John Harrington

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Hereford Times

Mr John Harrington complained that the newspaper had obtained information from an inappropriate source and had subsequently inaccurately reported that the local council planned to develop Hereford's Newmarket Street into a single-lane shared space for cars and pedestrians, in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

Although the newspaper did not consider that it had breached the Code, the complaint was resolved when the PCC provided the complainant with the newspaper's explanation for its report. The newspaper had already published a follow-up article, which made clear that Newmarket Street will retain two lanes and plans to reduce it to one lane were unlikely to be carried out for at least two years.
