Complainant Name:
Paul Caruana

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Daily Telegraph

Paul Caruana complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice when it wrongly reported that he supported, and was actively involved in, the 2013 badger cull in Somerset.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following wording in print:

Paul Caruana

Contrary to our report "Ineffective badger cull may push TB rates up" (Oct 8) Paul Caruana, field manager for the Government's eight-year culling trial that ended in 2006, has had no involvement whatsoever in the Somerset cull. Nor does he support it. We are happy to make this clear.

The online article was also amended and the following corrective footnote was published:

Contrary to an earlier version of this report, Paul Caruana was not involved in the Somerset cull. We are happy to make this clear.
