Ms Mojgan Khayatian

Clauses Noted: 1, 3, 5

Publication: The Sun

Ms Mojgan Khayatian complained to the Press Complaints Commission through solicitors about an article which she considered to have been inaccurate and intrusive in breach of Clauses 1 (Accuracy), 3 (Privacy) and 5 (Intrusion into grief or shock) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complainant was the sister of a man who was reported to have been ‘burned to death in a suspected vigilante attack'. She was concerned that the article suggested her deceased brother was guilty of criminal behaviour when he was, in fact, innocent.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the removal of the online article, and a letter of regret from the newspaper.
