Complainant Name:
Amy D'Warte

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Hastings & St Leonards Observer

Amy D'Warte was one of 13 individuals who complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published a court report that presented an inaccurate account of the trial of Mark Sandland. In the complainant's view, the newspaper had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper worked directly with the complainant to arrange for the publication of the following correction and apology:

Mark Sandland: Statement

On October 4, The Observer reported the appearance of Mark Sandland, of the Union pub, Cambridge Road on a murder charge at Lewes Crown Court. We described Mr Sandland as showing no emotion. We accept at times during the hearing he was visibly upset and distressed. We are sorry for any distress this may have caused for family and friends.
