Complainant Name:
Natural Hydration Council

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mail

Complaint:

Kinvara Carey of the Natural Hydration Council complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice. The complainant was concerned that the newspaper had wrongly reported that people in Britain could be suffering migraines caused by a chemical present in plastic water bottles and had illustrated the article with an image of a woman drinking bottled water. In fact, water bottles sold in the UK do not contain the chemical in question, Bisphenol A.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper removed the disputed photograph from the online article and amended the text of the piece appropriately.
