Publication: Daily Mail

Jenni Thomas complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published an article on its website that was inaccurate in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice. The complainant was concerned that the newspaper had incorrectly claimed that Child Bereavement Charity had been "set up" by Julia Samuel. In fact, the complainant had been the sole founder of the charity. Julia Samuel had subsequently become the charity's first patron.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated amendments to the article to make clear that the charity had been set up by Jenni Thomas and Ms Samuel had become its first patron. The following clarification was appended to the article:

An earlier version of this article stated wrongly that Mrs Julia Samuel set up the Child Bereavement UK charity. In fact the founder was Mrs Jenni Thomas. Mrs Samuel was its founder patron.
