Complainant Name:
Graham Robson

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: York Press

Complaint:

Graham Robson complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice when it reported, wrongly, that he had pleaded guilty to two charges of animal neglect. In fact, the complainant had faced only one charge and the remaining charges had been dropped.

Resolution:

The newspaper acknowledged the error and apologised to the complainant. The complaint was resolved when the newspaper arranged for the online version of the article to be amended appropriately and published the following wording in print:

"In our report of January 9 about a case against Toni Veitch and Graham Robson, we incorrectly stated that Mr Robson pleaded guilty to two charges of animal neglect. In fact, he pleaded guilty to one charge. We apologise for the error."
