Complainant Name:
Mrs Sian Williams

Clauses Noted: 3, 5, 13

Publication: Daily Mail

Mrs Sian Williams complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published an article about the death of her husband that included private details regarding her finances and holidays, and was accompanied by images taken from her private Facebook profile, in breach of Clause 3 (Privacy), Clause 5 (Intrusion into grief or shock) and Clause 13 (Financial journalism) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

Although the newspaper denied that there was a breach of the Code, the complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the removal of the photographs and information regarding the complainant's financial situation and holidays from the online article. The photographs were also removed from the newspaper's image library.
