Complainant Name:
Mr Roy Atkinson

Clauses Noted: 5

Publication: The Sun

Mr Roy Atkinson complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published an insensitive reference to his late wife, shortly after her death, in breach of Clause 5 (Intrusion into grief or shock) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complaint was resolved after the PCC negotiated an assurance from the newspaper that it would take every reasonable step to ensure that it would not refer to the complainant's late wife again, as well as a charitable donation in her memory.
