Complainant Name:
Ms Michele Macfarlane

Clauses Noted: 3, 6

Publication: The Mail on Sunday

Ms Michele Macfarlane complained to the Press Complaints Commission, under Clause 3 (Privacy) and Clause 6 (Children) of the Editors' Code of Practice, that the newspaper had failed to use pseudonyms she had given to her children, in an article which discussed her book.

The complaint was resolved after the PCC negotiated changes to the online article, a private letter of apology for the complainant, and the publication of the following clarification, as a footnote to the article online:

An earlier version of this article suggested that Michele Macfarlane had left her children as well as her husband. We are happy to make clear this was incorrect and that the children have always continued to reside with her.
