Complainant Name:
Mr Douglas Thomson

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Record

Mr Douglas Thomson complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice in an article about a "referendum" on Scottish independence which had taken place in Corby. He said that it was inaccurate to state that "thousands" of people had voted in the referendum, as only 576 people had voted.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following correction:

"Following Kezia Dugdale's article of July 14 in which she stated that thousands of people in Corby had cast their simulated referendum ballot, we would like to make clear that in fact 576 people voted."
