Complainant Name:
Dr Stephen Ferguson

Clauses Noted: 1, 3

Publication: Daily Mail

Complaint:

Dr Stephen Ferguson complained to the Press Complaints Commission about an article which he considered to have been inaccurate, misleading and intrusive in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) and Clause 3 (Privacy) of the Editors' Code of Practice. The complainant denied having claimed that his treatments "could combat cancer as effectively as chemotherapy", and he objected to the photographs which the newspaper had published.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the removal of two photographs of the complainant which were taken outside the court, and their replacement with a single photograph of the complainant at a formal event. The claim that the complainant said his treatments treated cancer as "effectively as chemotherapy" was removed from the article.
